The Weekend in Photos

The month of August was a total blur, so posts have been few and far between. Now that I’m settling in, getting ready for Fall, life feels a bit more normal. I have so many ideas and things I want to post, and I’ll get to work on that this week, but until then…

The weekend in photos!

I kicked off the weekend by spending some QT in my veggie garden, picking tomatoes. Homegrown is sooo delish!

My jalapenos are finally growing! I can’t wait to use them in some salsa.

My tomato haul was too large not to share. I do love my neighbors, they truly are the best.

You may remember the tray table makeover that I’ve been working on…well, this is attempt one…fail. Fear not, I’ll be back with attempt two soon.

This was the start of a yummy brunch.

A Sunday with football and beer is pure magic.

Even my pups enjoyed a much needed, lazy weekend.

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you have an amazing week. Wish me luck on the tray table, I’ll need it.

Thrifted Tray Table Makeover

I picked up this tray table at my local thrift store, Value Village. This cost me $5 and I intend to use paint I already own to give it a facelift. Lucky for me, I love color, so I have a vast collection of test paint colors and an array of spray paint. I’m thinking a fun pattern on the table top and dipped legs.

I love West Elm as much as the next girl, so I decided to check out some of their textiles for pattern inspiration. I may be in way over my head, but you don’t know unless you try, right?

The table is officially sanded and all cleaned up, ready for paint. My next step, of course, is to decide which pattern, and then I’ll need to create a template so I can tape it off for nice clean lines. I’m pretty excited about this project and can’t wait to share it.

Happy Friday!

Backpacking…Success

We made it to Orcas Island and scored a fantastic campsite overlooking the Sound and Obstruction Island. The weather was absolutely perfect, and it only took us two trips from the car to get all of our gear. The hike was not that difficult, thank goodness! I’m not saying it was easy, but with an extra 30 lbs on my back, I was super relieved that it was short and sweet.

So, highlights from the trip…

Our pup, Mia, wearing her backpack. No slackers in our group! She carried her own food, toys, and poop bags.

Yep, that's a white deer! Gotta love wildlife.

As you can see, this is a prime kayaking destination. Most kayakers were just staying for one night and moving on in the morning, so this meant new friends around our campfire each night.

I’m already excited for the next camping trip! I’m also pretty excited to have a cooler and a camping stove for the next one. More on that, and why we love camping so dang much later…

I hope you’re having a great week so far!

Backpacking…well sort of.

This weekend we are heading to Orcas Island for a camping adventure. We are hiking a short distance to get to our campsite, so packing was a bit unorthodox for us, the consummate car campers. We normally bring all the comforts of home and then some, but this time it’s all in a 30 lb pack. We have traded grilled portabella sandwiches for tuna and crackers, and egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches for granola bars. Here’s to hoping for a fantastic weekend of hiking and exploring, relaxation and fresh air, and best of all, dipping my feet in the Sound while enjoying a good book.

I hope you have fun plans for the weekend!
