Life in Photos: Silver Lining

Sadly, I was in bed sick all weekend long, so I have no adventures to report and no fun photos to share. My weekend, and Monday for that matter, consisted of watching TV, sleeping, taking ibuprofen, and drinking tea. However, because of 4 Simple Goals (more on that here), I have been taking more photos in general, so I flipped through my camera roll and lo and behold, I do have things to share!

This was my weekend in a nutshell, lemon ginger tea and more lemon ginger tea.

To put a positive spin on my boring weekend, I am feeling much better, and I was able to get some on-line Christmas shopping done yesterday. I don’t know about you, but I am such a big procrastinator. I always have great ideas and multiple lists, but I take forever to pull the trigger. Once the holiday season begins, I get swept up in festivities, and then I’m rushing around like a mad woman. Sometimes stuff happens and it all shakes out just fine.

Also, I’m loving 4 Simple Goals. Like, I am enjoying it so much that I have thought about doing this quarterly. Are you participating in 4 Simple Goals? How are you doing with it?

Comfy Cute

I can’t get enough of these cozy sweatshirts with a hit of sparkle. I love when comfort and style can come together and be such good friends. I’ve got to tell you…I am feeling a DIY project brewing. This idea of comfy cute sent me into an on-line frenzy in search of new favorites that are both, easy and stylish.

Snow Lake Hike

20131112-202614.jpg

On Saturday morning, we braved the cold and set out on a hike to Snow Lake at the Snoqualmie Pass. When I say that we braved the cold, I mean that we were prepared to encounter some snow and perhaps endure a soggy hike; however, we were not prepared to go the whole hike in the snow. AT. ALL. Well, as the story goes, it was a very cold and very snowy hike. It was absolutely beautiful and 100% worth it, but next time we intend to wear an extra layer and our waterproof gear. The trail itself was actually pretty easy at 6.4 miles roundtrip, and with only a 1000 foot climb. The toughest thing we had to deal with was the snow. It was a bit icy and slippery at points, which slowed us down a bit, and the trail was very narrow, so if you came across fellow hikers, it was a tight squeeze, even if you were pulled off to the side in knee deep snow. We were actually surprised at how many hikers were out, but the biggest shocker was the trail runner making his way up when we were coming down. I was so impressed. Also impressive, the very relevant gear that other people wore on the trail. We saw people in their North Face jackets with their hiking poles. I bet they didn’t fall on their bums. Oh, did I not mention that? Yep, I slipped on my bum twice. Fear not, it was graceful and in slow motion both times, so there are no injuries to report. I was also very quick to get up because my pants were not waterproof. For the record, I was donning my awesome hiking boots with wool socks, lightweight cargo pants, a tee with a flannel layered over, and my water resistant hooded jacket, topped with a headband to keep my ears and head warm and some lightweight gloves. This was not my proudest fashion moment, but sometimes being warm trumps trend. Okay, enough babbling, time for photos!

Life in Photos: Weekend Shots

We had another great weekend filled with food and drinks, snow and friends…not too shabby.

Fall Florals

I’m not usually a print kind of girl (except for stripes, of course) but I’m really into the florals I’ve been seeing for fall. The colors are deep and the bodies are simple and modern.

Life in Photos: There’s Something About Fall

The air crisper and the colors are richer. Fall is such a gorgeous time of year, and it is in full swing here. We celebrated Halloween this weekend, I have added some fall decorations to the house, I have put comfort food on the weekly dinner menu, and I have a constant craving for hot spiced cider. Here’s what we’ve been up to…

We are halfway there!

4 Simple Goals: Before 2014

One of my favorite blogs, A Beautiful Mess, has posed a challenge to themselves and their readers, the 4 Simple Goals Challenge to be exact. I absolutely love this idea for a few reasons — goals are important to keep you moving forward, they have the ability to improve your quality of life, and even the smallest changes can have a huge impact.

20131104-185406.jpg

You can find the ground rules here, but I’ve put in my two cents below.

It is important to choose goals that are attainable with little effort. Do you wish that you started your day with a healthy breakfast everyday? Do you want to read more? Do you want to call home and chat with your parents more often? These are all within reach, choose something simple!

Try not to focus on the end result. For example, eating a healthy breakfast everyday should be about improving your diet on a daily basis, not trying to drop a couple dress sizes.

You’re looking for life enriching goals, feed your soul. What will really make your life better? Talking to mom more often? Going for a walk everyday?

So, here’s the bonus…choose a reward for each goal so you can give yourself a big pat on the back as you reach each one.

Lastly, you’re supposed to blog about it. I know that not everyone has a blog, but I think this is a great exercise, so I say do it, with or without a blog. You could journal about it, comment in my posts, or share it on Facebook. Make it work for you.

I hope that you will join me.

Halloween Decor on a Dime: Finale

The party was a blast! Here’s the big Halloween roundup. When it was all said and done, we spent about $50 and were able to reuse a lot of old decorations. We found great free printables on Pinterest, pulled some things from our costume bin and, we even made use of our leftover Halloween candy. I regret not taking more pictures, but this will give you a good idea of how it all turned out.

Our friends are so creative and crafty, so their costumes were awesome, but I gotta tell you…my hubby outdid himself this year, as Jack of  Jack in the Box.

20131103-210626.jpg

I dressed up as a piñata this year, and I loved how easy and inexpensive my costume was…it cost $15 and took about 3 evenings. I got this idea from Pinterest (here’s the pin I used). For night 1, I did nothing but fringe the crepe paper. For night 2, I hemmed my dress (bought at a sample sale for $5) and began adhering the fringe to the dress. I used fabric glue and made sure the my dress was fully extended while applying. I completed the front in about 2 hours. Then for night 3, I finished up by attaching the fringe to the back, and I made my donkey head. The donkey head was a small box with and 2 cone party hats. Again, this was  easy, fun, and comfortable to wear all night.

And so, from our family to yours, I hope you had a great Halloween weekend and made some fun memories.

Happy Monday!

Life in Photos: LA Family Visit

We took a spontaneous trip down to Los Angeles to visit family last weekend and it was fantastic. We left on Friday and came home on Tuesday night, so we had some good quality time there. We spent a ton of time with our ridiculously cute, smart and funny 3 year old nephew. Our trips home used to be about going out, seeing friends, and visiting our old favorite places, but this trip was 100% about family. I am lucky to have such wonderful in-laws because although we live far away, when we get together, we pick up where we left off and enjoy being all together.

Consider yourself warned…I took a lot of photos of my nephew and apparently, nothing else.

He was showing me how he watches Power Rangers through Netflix while riding in the car…smarty pants.

Mu hubby, his brother and I got to enjoy some sunshine and a little coffee on Sunday morning…what a gorgeous day.

This kid and his Power Rangers! What do we watch while drinking milk? Why, watch Power Rangers, of course!

20131031-225239.jpg

After a long day at school, we decided to wind down with a little Toy Story dominoes.

20131031-225259.jpg

We do miss the deliciousness that is In-N-Out…so this happened.

20131031-225312.jpg

We got to watch soccer practice, and this kid couldn’t be happier about having an audience.

20131031-225325.jpg

What’s play time without a selfie, right?

It was tough to leave, but with such great photos and memories, I can look back anytime I want and relive the love.

Happy Friday!

Fall Shopping Wish List: Everyday Wears

I live a pretty low key life and my wardrobe reflects that. I awoke to a chilly morning yesterday, and I struggled with what to wear because I wanted to wear something besides my daily uniform –jeans and a cardigan– but let’s be real…once the temps dip below 60, I wear jeans about 90% of the time. Jeans are a staple, and I’m perpetually cold. I am making an effort to mix it up a little, but for the sake of my current fashion reality, I window shopped for some cute pieces to liven up my uniform. Anthropologie never fails for inspiration.
